28 Simple Steps on How to Make Your Own Dog Food Dispenser
We all love our dogs.
Who says no? Any show of hands?
Of course none!
Our pets are our happy pill coming home from a tiring day’s work. A simple act as petting them can make at peace and relaxed.
But, one thing that always grates our nerves is the mess when feeding them. We pour food from the pack, and most of it just falls down the floor.
Here is what you need to do:
Grab These Materials For This Craft
- Small Rubber Bands
- Your Dog’s Food Bowl
- Pack of Dog Food
- Bond Papers
- Popsicle Sticks
Simply Follow This Procedure
1. Creating the Pyramid Bin
Step 1: Cut 4 pieces of triangle sheets with a flat top from the cardboard. This will be used to create a four-sided pyramid for the dog food bin.
Step 2: Glue the four pieces of triangle on its sides to form a pyramid.
Once done, place it on the side.
2. Making the Mouth of the Bin
Step 3: Grab your popsicle sticks and cut 6 stacked strips of the popsicle with a shorter strip on top. These will serve as the rubber band clips that will close and open the mouth of the bin.
Use the superglue to secure the stack. It should look like this:
Step 4: Glue the clips on the pyramid bin. Place two clips on two opposite sides diagonally. Glue the other two clips on the flat top of the bin facing upwards. The shorter popsicle should be the part attached to the bin.
Place it on the side first.
Step 5: Roll a piece of bond paper and secure it with a scotch tape. You can use a pencil to mold the paper.
Step 6: Cut a small square sheet of cardboard and glue it sideways on the tip of the rolled paper from Step 5. This will be the mouth of the bin and the lever for the dispenser.
Step 7: On each side of the square sheet, glue the remaining two clips you made from Step 3.
Step 8: Now, attach the mouth to the smaller opening of the pyramid. Here is the image for your reference:
3. Building the Body of the Dispenser
Step 9: Cut a square sheet of cardboard. This will serve as the foundation of the dispenser. So, you have to make sure that your measurement includes the size of the pyramid bin and the four walls of the body.
Step 10: Cut 4 rectangular sheet of cardboard to create the walls of the dispenser.
The length of these sheets will depend on how long you want the dispenser. We suggest not going for a very tall dispenser because of the added weight of food jar that will be installed later.
Step 11: Glue two sheets making the left and the back walls of the dispenser.
Step 12: Once the two walls are glued properly you can now attach the pyramid bin invertedly by gluing it on the tips of the walls. You should have something like this:
Step 13: Before attaching the right wall of the dispenser, bore a hole in the rectangular sheet. The hole should be aligned with the rolled bond paper (lever) so it could pass through.
4. Making the Chute
Step 14: Cut another rectangular sheet of cardboard.
Step 15: Cut two thin strips of cardboard of the same size following the length of the rectangular sheet.
Step 16: Glue the two strips on each side of the rectangular sheet.
Step 17: Get the last remaining rectangular sheet from Step 10 (for the body of the dispenser) and create a rectangular opening of the sheet that will fit the chute.
The opening should be aligned with the mouth of the pyramid bin. See image for the reference:
Step 18: Glue the chute on the opening of the dispenser’s front wall.
Step 19: After the chute is securely glued on the opening, attach the entire wall to the rest of the dispenser’s body.
Step 20: Cut a small square sheet of cardboard and glue it horizontally on the protruding part of the bond paper to complete the lever.
5. Creating the Food Jar
Step 21: Cut another square sheet of cardboard that is a little bigger than the cover of the jar.
Step 22: Create a round opening on the sheet as this is where the dog food will pass through from the jar.
Step 23: Grab the cover of the jar and create an opening of the same size as the opening of the square sheets from Step 22.
Step 24: Glue the square sheet and the cover of the jar. Make sure that the openings are aligned.
Step 25: Pour the dog food into the jar and cover it with its holed cover.
Step 26: Once the jar is securely covered, glue the body upside down on the square sheet on top of the cover.
This will make attaching the jar and dispenser together since the body is less heavy and without risk of spilling the food.
Step 27: After the two parts are securely attached, turn the dispenser upside down, so the jar will be on top.
Step 28: Place creative labels on the dispenser’s lever for simple instructions on how to use the dispenser.
